Lyn is based on Portland in Dorset and works primarily with encaustic bees wax. Encaustic meaning 'to burn in'. This type of painting was practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C., and by the Romans for portraits and scenes of mythology on panels.
The additional advantages of working in this medium allows the artwork to become tactile through it's textures and a warm feeling to the touch. Collaged items, text, photographs and other euphemera along with colour pigements can be added to create these extraordinary pieces.
This medium gives Lyn the opportunity to constantly develop her skills but also discover 'happy accidents' through experimentation. The results produce incredible individual pieces of artwork with a unique quality from an exciting new medium and artist to Athay Gallery.
Lyn Kirkland shares her exceptional wax skills with us and demonstrates that she can help you pick up essential tips in this exciting new medium through her one-to-one workshops. Book a course at: http://lynkirklandart.artweb.com
